Inconel is a family of nickel-chromium superalloys known for exceptional resistance to oxidation, corrosion, and high temperatures. Unlike standard stainless steel, Inconel retains its strength and structural integrity at extreme temperatures (up to 1000°C+), making it ideal for aerospace, power generation, and chemical processing applications.
Inconel 600 is a general-purpose grade with good oxidation resistance. Inconel 625 adds molybdenum and niobium for superior corrosion resistance and weldability, widely used in marine and chemical environments. Inconel 718 is a precipitation-hardened grade offering the highest strength, used in aerospace turbines and high-stress applications.
Yes, most Inconel grades can be welded. Inconel 625 is particularly known for excellent weldability and is often used as a weld overlay material. Inconel 718 requires careful heat treatment before and after welding to avoid cracking. TIG and MIG welding with matching filler materials are commonly used.
Inconel alloys can withstand temperatures ranging from cryogenic levels up to 1093°C (2000°F) depending on the grade. Inconel 625 is rated for continuous service up to 980°C, while Inconel 718 performs well up to 704°C under high stress. This makes them ideal for jet engines, gas turbines, and furnace components.
